It was supposed to be a routine surgery for Amy Donaho Howell’s husband, Jim. But he became septic in the hospital, and hovered close to death several times during his 90 days in the hospital.
In conjunction with World Sepsis Awareness Month, Amy has launched her book about the near-fatal experience to raise awareness about the dangers of sepsis and how early detection is critical. Sepsis is the third leading cause of death, behind cancer and heart attacks.
