A bill introduced by State Senator Josh McLaurin (D-Atlanta) could regulate Georgia’s booting industry.
Currently, employees from booting companies regularly sit and monitor parking lots, waiting for people to leave their cars and then immediately place boots on them. It’s also common for booting companies to pay property owners a portion of the fees collected to monitor their parking lots.
House Bill 119 would prevent property owners from making revenue from booting, disincentivizing them from allowing booting companies to monitor their parking lots. The bill would need to pass a rules committee and the Senate floor before reaching the governor.
