Smothered, covered and 64 years old

waffle house founders

Waffle House has been an Atlanta staple for decades, and while we all know how we like our hash browns cooked, most don’t know the origin story of the waffles we love so much.

In the mid 1950s, Joe Rogers and Tom Forkner came up with the idea to open a restaurant focused not just on the quality of food, but the people – both their employees and their customers. On Labor Day 1955, Waffle House opened its doors in Avondale Estates.

After 64 years and 2,000+ locations later, Waffle House is still all about the people … and waffles.
