I have no expectation of comfort on a flight and don’t mind taking my own meals on board. But giving up my seat entirely?
A recent study published in the International Journal of Engineering and Technology found that if an airline removed the seats, it could cram on 20 percent more passengers, resulting in discounts of up to 44 percent. For seatbelts, we would lean against a padded board and strap ourselves in.
While no American airlines are considering that option yet, plane manufacturer Airbus has filed a patent for a standing seat. My guess? Passengers won’t stand for it.
