AJFF Connects: The legacy of Atlanta’s first black mayor

by

Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. wanted a non-violent social change for black people. As the first African-American mayor of Atlanta, his legacy continues to live within our city.

Enter his son Maynard Jackson III, who had the idea to make an inspiring documentary about Jackson’s challenges and Atlanta’s fraught racial history. Maynard III turned to filmmaker Samuel D. Pollard to direct “Maynard,” which gives viewers into an intimate view of Jackson from family, friends and colleagues who knew him best.

Tickets for a June 28 screening of “Maynard” can be purchased at AJFF Connects – a year-round programming initiative.
