They called him “keeper of faith,” “protestor for justice” and “defender of freedom.” For one night, partisan politics, social inequality and racial injustice were put aside to honor Congressman John Lewis, who fought the good fight during the Civil Rights Movement.
Attending the Portraits of John Lewis event, his 75th birthday celebration, made me realize that without his sacrifice I could not work where I work or even live where I live.
The celebration was at the Tabernacle Atlanta and included remarks from Dionne Warwick, Alfre Woodard, other notables, and videos from Presidents Obama and Clinton. Happy birthday, Congressman Lewis!
