After the last bell rings, who takes care of schools’ community gardens during summer? The staff of Captain Planet Foundation, which will host 210 school gardens in Atlanta by year’s end, and FoodCorps members maintain them. Gardens are then harvested, and crops donated to Atlanta Community Food Bank partners.
Fresh produce is ACFB’s largest category of food distributed, and ACFB reports some partner agencies request more food for summer programs to help kids who don’t receive their school breakfast and lunch.
