History of Roswell

by

While traveling through North Georgia in 1830, businessman Roswell King noted the potential of the land along Victory Creek. A few years later, he returned with more than 75 slaves to build a cotton mill and surrounding town.

As Roswell Mill’s production continued to grow, so did the town’s population. Roswell survived being occupied during the Civil War and later the Great Depression to become one of the largest cities in the state today.

The original homes of Barrington King, Archibald Smith and President Theodore Roosevelt’s mother – Roswell’s three “founding families” – have been preserved and are open to the public.
