Hold up, (don’t) hold the phone

Think that text message can’t wait? You might want to think again. House Bill 673 goes into effect July 1 and will make holding or supporting a cell phone (even in your lap) illegal. While seemingly obvious, watching and recording videos and movies will also cost you hefty fines.

So what is allowed? Using a GPS system or mapping app, wearing and using a smartwatch, voice-activated tasks, and the use of the radio are all considered lawful. Using your cellphone while parked is okay (not including stoplights).

Certain emergency personnel are exempt from the law, but only during emergencies.
