Sugar tried to stay focused on teaching the Chinese students in her class, but her mind kept drifting back to the previous Saturday night when Alex had asked her to dance at the mission’s annual gala.
Alex had only joined the Episcopal mission in Anqing a few months before, but Sugar had noticed the tall blond-haired man with the charming British accent right away. Something about him reminded her of her father back in Macon.
Until Saturday, Sugar had kept herself committed to her teaching career, only occasionally dating American men in Anqing.
Alex, however, was different – and somewhat mysterious.
