For more than three decades, the Historic Academy of Medicine served as the meeting place for the oldest medical association in Atlanta.
Designed by Philip Shutze, the Neo-Classical building was built in 1941. The Medical Association of Atlanta used the new space to share and discuss medical theories, techniques and ideas – until hospital libraries and conferences began to replace meetings in the 1970s.
The Academy features Doric columns, Italian marble floors and a domed ceiling where the Czechoslavakian chandelier featured in Gone With the Wind hangs. Georgia Tech acquired the historic building and popular special events venue in 2008.
