As the daily hustle and bustle takes place between classes at the University of Georgia, observers may notice a few furry, four-legged friends intermixed in the crowded hallways. These fluffy students can be explained by the university’s partnership with the Guide Dog Foundation, currently celebrating its 75th anniversary.
UGA is home to the largest organization of puppy raisers for the GDF, successfully raising hundreds of guide dogs to assist the visually impaired. Student volunteers are tasked with socializing and training eight-week-old puppies, bringing them everywhere they go until the dogs are ready to return to the foundation for formal training.
