The Last Laugh

by Jan Schroder

Bob Richey’s family and friends gathered this week to say farewell to the longtime Atlanta insurance executive. His five grandkids and three children – including my wife Jan – shared favorite stories of his well-lived life.

After guests left the funeral reception at our house Monday, his offspring huddled for a last round of storytelling. As they tired, Jan discovered a recording of a two-hour biographical interview her daughter Catherine had conducted with Bob for a high school project.

We listened with joy to Bob narrating his early years, the sadness a touch easier, knowing we could always hear his laugh again.

My first thought after reading this touching article was that I had been with you all to hear all those stories. But, how much nicer it would have been to have lived nearer to you all. Well, not in Atlanta, but have us all in the PNW where the weather is reasonable.
