Atlanta City Council votes in favor of new legislation for taxi industry

by The 100 Companies

The Atlanta City Council recently voted in favor of new legislation that will permanently allow taxi cabs up to 10 years old to pick up passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The ordinance originally proposed eliminating certain taxi requirements, such as being painted a certain color and using traditional taximeters. However, many taxi drivers spoke out against this deregulation and voiced concerns regarding safety and security issues.

Instead, by extending the car age limit, cab drivers will benefit by not having to purchase new cars as frequently. This change is intended to level the playing field between taxi and rideshare services.
