Is the future of festivals and events at stake?

Music Midtown organizers recently announced the cancellation of this year’s highly anticipated music festival. Although not confirmed, many speculate the reason relates to state gun laws.

State law permits Georgians to legally carry firearms on public lands, like city-owned Piedmont Park. After debates on whether the law applies to private events held on public lands, like Music Midtown, a 2019 Georgia Supreme Court ruling made it difficult to restrict guns.

Atlanta’s known for its festivals and events, many taking place on public lands like parks, so this could have ramifications for many other festivals and events including charity walks and fundraisers.
