Atlantans are used to hot summer days, but extreme temperatures this summer have been brutal. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) even declared July 2021 Earth’s hottest on record.
Remember, dangers exist for both humans and pets while remaining out and active in temperatures this high and precautions should be taken.
Never leave people or pets in closed cars on warm days. Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Stay in shade as much as possible. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. And avoid high-energy activities during midday when it’s hottest.
Watch for the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
