Family fun day to support Smyrna’s first responders

by

SMYRNA, Georgia — The Smyrna
Public Safety Foundation will host a car show and a softball game as part of a
free, family-friendly community event to support Smyrna’s first responders.

The foundation will hold the
Hotrods & Heroes Car Show and the Battle of the Badges Softball Game from
10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Smyrna First Baptist Church, located
at 1275 Church St. in Smyrna.

“Our first responders give so
much of themselves to keep the community safe and make it the incredible place
that it is,” Denise Czarnik, executive director of the Smyrna Public Safety
Foundation, said. “This event is the perfect way to celebrate these community
heroes while having fun.”

In the Battle of the Badges
softball game, the Smyrna Fire Department and the Smyrna Police Department will
face off for the 2nd Annual Chiefs Award. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.

The Smyrna Fire Department is
looking to win back-to-back games after defeating the Smyrna Police Department
in 2023 during a game where first responders were having so much fun that they
decided to play extra innings.

During the Battle of the
Badges, the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation will be accepting donations for its
benevolence fund. It will also offer raffles and opportunities for anyone who
wants to donate directly to support a Smyrna Fire Department lieutenant and
20-year veteran of the force who has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

The Hotrods & Heroes Car
Show will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The Southern Wheels Unlimited Car Club
will help with the event and select the top 15 awards, which will be presented
starting at 2 p.m. A $20 registration fee directly supports Smyrna first responders,
and discounts are offered for multiple car entries.

Applications are now open for
anyone who wants to show off their wheels. To register, visit
SPSFcar.givesmart.com.

The event will also feature a
Touch a Truck event, where kids can explore different types of trucks up close,
including a fire truck, a swat truck and a Barrow wrecker tow truck.

The event will include
various vendors, and food from Hotrods Popcorn, the Mighty Millie Foundation
and others will be available for purchase. Future Smyrna Public Safety
Foundation events include Jazz Under the Gazebo on Nov. 2 in downtown Smyrna
and Shop with a Hero in December.
