Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 to honor the emancipation of all enslaved African Americans in the U.S. This holiday commemorates the date when the final African American slaves were freed in Galveston, Texas. In 2011 Georgia officially recognized Juneteenth as a holiday.
Juneteenth Atlanta will host its ninth annual Juneteenth Parade and Music Festival in Centennial Olympic Park June 18-20, featuring national artists and speakers on two stages, an artists market, food trucks, wellness fields including yoga, martial arts and meditation, a 5k Freedom Run/Walk/Roll, kids activities, games and so much more.
