Georgia State University officially purchased Turner Field Jan. 5. That means GSU and Carter can move forward with redevelopment plans for the 68-acre site.
Georgia State will spend $52.8 million to purchase and redevelop the Ted and the nearby properties, with the help of partners like Atlanta-based HGOR, which has previously redesigned walkable, mixed-use developments. The majority of the money will go toward the stadium itself – including a new field, which Georgia State hopes to play football on as early as this fall.
The completion of this sale is a major win for future downtown redevelopment.
