Trying to remember my mom’s advice

Despite my lifetime interest in politics, I avoid conflict. Relationships are more important than winning arguments, but with America’s drift towards tribalism it’s becoming increasingly challenging – particularly with Facebook.

It’s exponentially more frustrating knowing I’m falling into a trap set by Vladimir Putin, who we know invested in a successful social media campaign to divide and inflame America.

Father’s Day, I read a relative’s Facebook post that pushed me over the edge. My mom always said family trumps disputes, but overruling her voice in my head, I caustically unfriended my cousin – online and in life. Score another one for Putin.
