It’s that time of year. Step outside and chances are you’ll smell charcoal firing up from one direction or the other. Grilling season is a delicious chance to introduce new recipes, but for beginners, it can be intimidating. Here are some tips:

• Begin with a clean grill. It’s easiest with a metal brush when the grill’s hot.

• Tame those flames by keeping a spray water bottle near.

• It can be tough to tell when meat is ready, so make a meat thermometer your new best friend.

• Don’t forget to undercook food – it will continue to cook after leaving the grill.
