Georgia residents can now receive naloxone, commonly known by its brand name, Narcan, for free through various pharmacies and distribution boxes. Naloxone can reverse the effects of opioids like fentanyl, helping to combat rising opioid overdose rates throughout the country and state. According to the Georgia Department of Health, Georgia opioid-related overdose deaths increased by 207% from 2010 to 2020.
Organizations such as Georgia Overdose Prevention and the Georgia Harm Reduction Coalition distribute free naloxone kits via mail, community outreach and 24/7 public distribution boxes. To find a nearby distribution site or request a kit, visit the Georgia Overdose Prevention website.
