With over 242 neighborhoods in the city of Atlanta, each has a unique name with an even more unique story.

Midtown: Richard Peters purchased the southern portion of land that is located between current-day Buckhead and Downtown in 1848, which received its name because it was the middle of Atlanta.

Grant Park: Atlanta’s oldest neighborhood received its name in 1883 when Lemuel P. Grant donated over 131 acres of green space to the city.

Old Fourth Ward: The name Old Fourth Ward dates to 1937 when the number of wards was reduced and it was combined with the Fifth.
