For nearly a century, Atlantans could commune around the Atlanta Waterworks, but fears of terrorism prompted officials to cordon the facility during the Atlanta Olympics.
For almost 20 years, the Westside was without park space, but with the planned additions of the Westside Trail of the BeltLine and the Bellwood Quarry/Westside Park, that is changing.
And the city of Atlanta recently announced its support of the Waterworks Park initiative in connection with expanding the city’s reservoir capacity to more than 30 days. Plans for the park at 17th and Howell Mill include renovation of The Lodge, trails and green space.
