Earlier this month Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced a return to the city’s COVID-19 Phase One guidelines, which she’s since noted is voluntary. She also issued a mandate on mask coverings, which has resulted in a deep division between her and Gov. Brian Kemp.
Kemp responded by filing a lawsuit against Bottoms, saying cities and counties are barred from enforcing rules that are more or less restrictive than ones he sets.
A mediation session was ordered by the court, and both sides have continued this week to put forth efforts in reaching an agreement to avoid a court battle.
