Crawdads return to our city creeks

Growing up a block from Peachtree, I loved turning over rocks in our front yard creek to find snakes, salamanders and crawdads, as we called them. Then our city allowed builders and developers to have their way, polluting creeks and destroying our wildlife habitat.

Today, following more than $3 billion the city borrowed to better manage stormwater runoff and sewers – albeit as a result of federal EPA mandate – wildlife is returning. My brother Mike, who lives in our childhood home on Rivers Road, reports seeing salamanders and crawdads again.

Now, if they can only mandate we clean up City Hall.
