Fulton Cotton Mills Lofts

Cabbagetown’s Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts have only been around about two decades, but the building’s origin dates back to the late 1800s, when immigrant Jacob Elsas started the Fulton Cotton Spinning Company.

Shortly after, in 1881, construction on the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills complex began. The mill finally closed in 1978.

Aderhold Properties began the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts in 1997. Two years later, the lofts faced a major setback – and made news – when the “Cabbagetown loft fire” broke out. Broadcast on live TV, a firefighter famously dangled by a cable from a helicopter to rescue a trapped operator.
