First lady, first mother – Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush

Politics aside, the recent passing of Barbara Bush struck a chord. Beyond her place in history as a first lady and a mother of a president, the obvious white hair and her ferocious love of reading, I feel like I got to know her last week.

She was a strong, family-oriented woman who loved fiercely and was fiercely loved. She was a fur parent who spoke her mind and was known by many as the Enforcer. (My spirit animal!) She was elegant, real and could seriously rock a set of pearls. She sipped bourbon. We could have been BFFs.
