Confronting Atlanta’s gender pay gaps

by The 100 Companies

Although it has been 60 years since pay discrimination became illegal in the U.S., the persistent wage gap between men and women continues to affect the economy’s growth negatively.

While Atlanta has made strides toward gender equality, women still earn less than men. For example, despite over one-fourth of the city’s tech workforce comprising women, reports show that Atlanta women in tech industries earn 83.7% of what men earn.

A recent Pew Research article noted men and women generally begin their careers at similar wages, but women lose ground over time in careers, pointing to other factors, including parenthood.
