Each morning, I wake up and read TheSkimm, which gives me the news I need – quickly. (Sounds familiar?)
It was recently announced that the newsletter, founded by Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, has a new backer: The New York Times. With this round of investment, the founders plan on building out a video business.
This seems mutually beneficial, as TheSkimm has four million active subscribers and the Times has years (since 1851!) of publishing experience. What it speaks more to, though, is the continuing challenge newspapers face and the opportunities they have to invest in and learn from digital media.
