“We wanted out of going to the office every day.”
In 1985, Helen Cleveland and roommate Melissa Bunnen were tired of the corporate world. Helen wanted to bake, Melissa wanted to start a service firm. First the two had to make a capital investment to launch Piece of Cake.
“I was devastated I had to put in $200 and my father thought I was crazy,” Helen recalls in our Crossroads video.
Their investment paid off – in multiple layers! Twenty-eight years later, the business has just moved into a new 17,000-square-foot facility on Collier Road, oversees eight stores and keeps an eye on countless cakes going out the door each morning.
