The longest government shutdown in history continues, and Atlanta is not immune to the repercussions. Many historic sites are closed to the public, such as Martin Luther King Jr.’s childhood home and Ebenezer Baptist Church. Both closures were noticeable during the recent holiday. Other areas, such as Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, are open but do not have services available.
The shutdown also affects airports – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in particular. With TSA workers opting to not work unpaid, security lines can last up to three hours.
With so many affected, Atlantans are hoping the shutdown ends soon.
