Plastic … It’s in your blood

by The 100 Companies

We all know about the problem with plastic and how it’s polluting the world. However, new research suggests it’s also polluting our bodies. For the first time ever, scientists found microplastics in human blood.

Ben Jack, Programme Director at Common Seas says, “Plastic isn’t just a disaster for our ocean, it’s a crisis for economics, livelihoods and health.”

Is this affecting our brain, digestive system or a cancer risk? We don’t know, but we do know we’ve produced 18.2 trillion pounds of plastic since the ’50s, the equivalent of 1 billion elephants. And plastic production is expected to quadruple by 2050.
