Taking place 10AM-2PM on Oct. 24, the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day encourages cleaning out medicine cabinets to safely, and anonymously, dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications at nationwide drop-off sites.
The event provides an opportunity to educate on the public safety and public health issue of prescription medication abuse while helping to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
The organized disposal also aids in protecting the environment, offering an alternative to flushing medications down sinks or toilets, which can result in trace levels of drug residue in rivers, lakes and community drinking water supplies.
