Cold Air Intakes: a Sensible Car Upgrade?

by

When most of us hear “modified car,” we think of street-racing rapscallions in ridiculous, lowered Hondas. But is there a sensible, practical car modification out there worth considering?

Internal combustion requires oxygen, and most cars naturally breathe warm air from around the engine bay. Cold air intakes suck denser, cooler air into the engine, improving MPG by one or two and providing a healthy uptick in power.

So why not install them from the factory? Intakes make a throaty growl when you put your foot down, delighting enthusiasts, but alienating average car buyers. As the former, I love mine.
