Toyota and Mini spent big money during Super Bowl 50 to flip the public’s perspective on their “slow,” “girly” or “hipster” cars: the Prius and four-door Clubman.
“This thing is actually pretty fast…” is heard during the Prius ad. “This car doesn’t care what you call it,” grumbles Harvey Keitel about the Mini. Do these cars deserve new reputations?
The new Prius boasts sexy new lines, but won’t beat its plodding predecessor to 60. The Clubman boasts style, but falls short to four-door competition in value. Perhaps calling it “inferior to a cheaper Mazda3” would rattle its stoicism.
