My great-grandfather moved to Atlanta, co-founding King & Spalding in 1885. He did well. My grandfather was an entrepreneur. His businesses were poorly timed, falling victim to boll weevil infestation and a real estate crash. Others viewed him as a failure.
My physician father urged his children not take risks like his dad. Undaunted, I founded neighborhood newspapers in 1994, a PR firm in 2002 and this eNewsletter in 2013.
My son has a crowdfunding business on the side. My daughter employs eight in her eBay store. I cherish our conversations, discussing risks, celebrating wins, reviewing losses – continuing traditions.
