When Sam Williams took over as president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, he thought he might serve a year or two and return to the private sector. Seventeen years later, in front of 1,400 of his closest business supporters gathered Tuesday at the Marriott Marquis, he said farewell.
Governor Nathan Deal offered his congratulations. Mayor Kasim Reed marveled at how the metro Atlanta area has expanded so fast it grew “20 years ahead of schedule.” And while we need to improve infrastructure, the mayor noted, there is no doubt that Sam Williams helped launch an impressive wave of economic development.
