We buried our father Sam Massell last week in Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery. He has many legacies, but one they don’t write about is how he engendered a love of music in his three children.

He took Cindy and me to see The Beatles in Atlanta in 1964 and The Doors in Miami in 1969 – the night Jim Morrison was arrested. He took Cindy and Melanie to see Elvis Presley’s last concert in Atlanta. I don’t have many regrets in life – not joining them that night is one.

Melanie is a professional singer. I attend and sponsor concerts. Cindy loves The Stones.
