Take a walk from Atlanta to Alabama

by

It’s true: Walking a direct route from Smyrna, GA, to near Cedartown, AL, is actually possible.

Located 13 miles northwest of Atlanta, the Silver Comet Trail runs 61.5 miles west through Cobb, Paulding and Polk Counties. Anything non-motorized is permitted on the paved trail, from walkers and bicyclists to rollerblades and horses. And, it’s free.

Built on abandoned railroad lines, the trail was named after the Silver Comet train that ran from 1947 to 1989. After GDOT purchased it in 1992, Cobb County started development on the first 12.8 miles of the multi-use trail in 1998.
