Just a Game, Right?

by Jan Schroder

Yes, football’s just a game, but to a nine-year-old whose father bought season tickets in 1966, I was imprinted early as a deeply devoted Falcons fan – a condition I’ve endured for 51 years.

I’ve spent much of my life reading/watching all I could about each year’s ups – and, mostly, downs. I bear the scars of so many losses, none more painful than Sunday night’s epic Super Bowl.

Prudence says perhaps it’s time to move on – work and an expected first grandchild beckon. Yes, it’s just a game, but to those afflicted with Falcons fanaticism, it hurts, deeply.
