Lenox Square opened in 1959 as an open air mall, Georgia’s first, with the slogan “Everything’s there at Lenox Square.” Developers tore down a Buckhead estate called Joyeuse for its construction.
The mall originally held 60 tenants, including Rich’s and Davison’s (Macy’s predecessors) department stores, an indoor golf driving range, bowling alley and Colonial supermarket. The building showcased “futuristic” concrete arches, giving it a modern look at the time.
The mall continues to expand, while hosting many popular events like The Pink Pig and the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting during the holidays and a huge Fourth of July fireworks display.
