I was born 100 years after my great-grandfather, Jack Spalding.
Growing up, my father would recount how his family always returned for Jack’s significant birthdays and took a photo on the lawn of his home, Deerland, now the site of Piedmont Hospital. For Jack’s 150th, I revived the tradition with 100 attendees.
Jack was a gregarious lawyer who co-founded King & Spalding; helped organize Georgia Power, Coca-Cola and Piedmont Park; and gave away every dollar he earned over $1 million, yet never wanted his name attached to any donation. So we return occasionally and tell the family stories.

What a wonderful lunch to honor my great-great grandfather! I so enjoyed hearing the stories and catching up with family!
A great man and Catholic standard bearer in a difficult time for Catholics in Atlanta – what a leader!
