The three of us walked into the large common room on the fourth floor of the Blue Goose, what locals call the utilitarian blue-tiled building on Augusta’s 15th Street.
The television blared Fox News as four men in wheelchairs vacuously followed the patriotic colors scrolling across the screen.
The nurse seemed pleased to see us, initially. “Welcome to the Georgia War Veterans Home,” she said. “Who you here to see?”
”David,” I said, glancing up from my iPhone. “They said he was on this floor.”
She rolled her eyes as if annoyed by the mere mention of his name.
