Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently took to Instagram’s blog to explain how content is ranked. Each section of the app (feed, stories, explore, reels and search) has its own algorithm:
• Based on predicted engagement, the Explore section uses past activity to curate content from accounts users don’t follow.
• The Feed combines posts from the accounts followed, recommended content and ads, considering user activity, post information and interaction history.
• Reels prioritize user feedback, such as re-sharing, full watch-through and activity and creator popularity.
• Stories rank based on viewing history, engagement levels and relationship strength.
