The Instagram algorithm explained

by The 100 Companies

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently took to Instagram’s blog to explain how content is ranked. Each section of the app (feed, stories, explore, reels and search) has its own algorithm:

Based on predicted engagement, the Explore section uses past activity to curate content from accounts users don’t follow.

The Feed combines posts from the accounts followed, recommended content and ads, considering user activity, post information and interaction history.

Reels prioritize user feedback, such as re-sharing, full watch-through and activity and creator popularity.

Stories rank based on viewing history, engagement levels and relationship strength.
