October is Global Diversity Awareness Month, which aims to promote the understanding of differing cultural perspectives. A tough objective, as it’s one that people have struggled with over the course of recorded history (probably before that, too).
It’s a valiant goal, though. Understanding other cultures and viewpoints builds trust and respect, especially in workplaces that struggle to attract minorities. That’s why the Public Relations Society of America also celebrates diversity in October and provides members with tools for education and implementing initiatives.
And when industries begin to reflect the multicultural richness of America, it can spur innovation and growth.
