In 2005, Alex Tew, a British student looking to earn some tuition money, launched a website with nothing more than a million pixels of ad space for sale for $1 each. Many people thought his MillionDollarHomePage was a joke, but it was Tew who got the last laugh when each and every pixel was sold.
Ten years have passed, and now Tew’s idea is being repurposed by an anonymous crowdfunder as WeMadeAMillionaire.com – a sure-to-fail social experiment to see whether the crowd will turn the project’s nameless creator into a millionaire.
Much to my delight, less than $15,000 has been pledged.
