After he lost his job in 2010, Atlanta native Brandon Stanton decided to spend some of his newly found free time photographing interesting New Yorkers and posting the photos, along with a personal story from each subject, onto his Facebook account.
What began as a passion project quickly went viral, earning Stanton over ten million social media followers as well as a career as a photographer.
While his followers changed his life, he’s now using them to do the same for others: Stanton has already crowdfunded more than $1 million for the underprivileged school one of his recent subjects attends.
