Rather than spending summers manning an ice cream shop or as a camp counselor, both of which graced my high school résumé, high school students chosen for the Nature Conservancy’s LEAF program are provided with paid, educational summer internships. The program focuses on engaging urban youth to become stewards of the earth.
Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future (LEAF) has partnered with environmentally focused high schools in 27 states, including DeKalb County’s Arabia Mountain High School. This summer, 20 students from Arabia Mountain will spend one month working on projects across the country.
