The Wall Street Journal recently profiled firms buying newspapers at bargain prices, reminding me when real estate icon Tom Cousins offered to become my business partner in 1997, saving our neighborhood newspapers that today exist as Atlanta INtown.
A remarkably successful businessman with a huge heart for community philanthropy, Tom always counseled me: “No matter how wonderful an idea you have, by definition a business has to make a profit.”
Tom used his lifetime of profits honorably, never seeking public attribution for his massive contributions, including single-handedly saving East Lake, now a national model for revitalizing crime-ridden communities.
